Dave Burke : Freelance .NET Web Developer specializing in Online Communities

BlogEngine.NET and Me

This blog is now powered by BlogEngine.Net, but to be honest I know very little about it.  I may have migrated my Community Server blog of 2000-some posts to BE.Net (rather successfully, I think :-), I created an original DBVT2008 BE.Net Theme, configured BlogEngine.Net to share ASP.NET membership with my photo gallery app, and I wrote a couple of BlogEngine extensions to maintain compatibility with Community Server functions, but all-in-all I really know very little about BlogEngine.Net.

I hope to eventually become a contributing member to the BlogEngine.Net Community, but it's still way early.  I'm just a noob.  I'll tell you this though, I love how light-weight and fast my blog is.  I like how I can zip up my web site and it's less than 2 megs.  I like having only 9 BE tables in my SQL Database.  And I like the fact that BlogEngine.Net is a Website project.  Once I got the Website Project model (albeit rather late in the game) I'm seeing how its more pleasant and productive to work in.

Besides the technical merits of BlogEngine.Net, I like being tuned-in to the BE.Net Community with users and developers who are genuinely enthusiastic about BlogEngine.Net.  I mentioned this on my Services Page as one of the reasons I am hoping to transition into more Open Source development.  I've been missing that.

Thus ends the first post of my new BlogEngine.Net category.  Plan to see many more.

Dave, my man Smile

Great move and very neat work! I really love the new theme, new engine and your clever move to the new engine.

I love the way you're extended your career and are gonna make it more general than Community Server-related stuff.

Btw, you can now use my Waegis much better than when you were powered by Community Server because BG has a %100 integration. It will be live very soon Wink

K-man, Thank you for the kind words.  I recommended your MVC- based blog engine to someone just yesterday.  And yes, I've been following your work with Waegis.  I know it's been a dream of yours for a long time.  Hey, I thought you were in a down time and not being productive.  What happened with that?  heh-heh.  Great to hear from you.

Ugm!  Something strange going on in DBVT land via BlogEngine.NET.  Sydication has info for "Spam and BlogEngine.NET - Nadda, Nope, Nothin", but no article exists.  Smile

Dang, that's me being stupid, Bill.  Not a problem with BlogEngine.NET.   I just looked at the data in be_post which confirms what I did.  I had "Published" the post in Live Writer then later edited it and "Saved as Draft" so it was picked up for syndication, and then it wasn't. Thanks for the alert.  I guess it's a good thing that "I'm watching you!!!"

There's a bug in BE, btw, that the IsPublished flag is ignored and posts are displayed regardless.  I should probably go in and fix that, which I'm sure will be fixed in BE 1.4, but that's why it was displayed but not syndicated, well it was...then it wasn't.  Now it is.

You know, they have pills for that.  Smile
