If you've ever managed an online community you probably encountered the spammer who creates an account for the purpose of littering your community with their non-topic messages and comments. We despise them, of course, but often don't have the tools to keep our community clean.
Sueetie adds community-wide banned IP support which prevents users from continuing to dump their crap on our streets. It also prevents them from creating new accounts to spam us after being banned. We're going to see that in action here.
Here we see Sueetie's Banned IP list. IPs are entered with a ###.###.###.* range and can be entered here or on the Administration User Management page.
Sueetie prevents anyone with these IPs from logging in and equally important, from creating new member accounts. Here's an actual email that was created when a spammer tried to create a new account.
We're masking the particulars to protect the stupid, but you can be sure it wasn't a legitimate user trying to be a part of the community. What if we're wrong in designating a user as a spammer and preventing them from creating an account? That's where the Contact Form comes in, which we mention on the Registration Response message. We apologize "for the snafu" and ask that the user contact us to let us know. Oh, and "Thanks much!"
