Another dbvt.com/blog TODO

Okay, on the dbvt.com/blog TODO List currently:

  1. Migrating 15 months of http://weblogs.asp.net/dburke posts to http://dbvt.com/blog

  2. Adding a search formlet to my blog

  3. Building a Comment Tracker feature which lists and tracks the activity of other blogs where I left comments

And tonight I realize I need

  1. A way to update post categories without pushing them back into the RSS channel.

  2. And related to better Post Category Management...MICRO Categories.

We change our interests, create categories that we think will have a long life only to discover they are short-lived interests or that we don't have as much to say on those topics as we initially thought.  Categories--a wonderful access mechanism in theory--become too numerous.  Broader categories are diluted by wide range of subject related posts requiring too much time in scanning post titles.

The intelligence to update post categories is already in .Text.  It merely needs copied from the EditPost function and made its own function.

Micro Categories then would in essence be subcategories of existing categories and would display separately from the major sidebar categories.  My dbvt.com/site TODO posts would be their own Micro Category, for instance.  Book Reviews would be another Micro Category.  The “dbvt.com/site TODOs” would be a subcategory of “Building this Site.”  An example of using a Micro Category would be to display my Site TODO's on a single page!

Yeah, I like it.
