CSBlogs : Post Categories Panel Mod

I have trouble remembering to assign categories to my CSBlog posts as the AdvancedPanel of the PostEditor is located below the post button and is not visible.  When I don't see the categories checkbox I forget to assign my posts to one.  I wanted to make sure my posts were assigned to categories, pllus I want to expand on categories and add series collections (subcategories) like on my dotText blog.

The 3-second fix would have been to keep the AdvancedPanel open by default, but that was inefficient.  All I wanted was a Categories panel on my EditPosts page, so I added one.  I then relocated the Categories checkbox control from the AdvancedPanel to the new Categories Panel and set the panel open by default.  Finally I moved the post buttons below the panels.

A screenshot is worth 76 words. Red arrow to the new categories panel, green arrow to the existing AdvancedPanel, buttons below.  It took me longer to post about this mod than to actually do it.  Once again, everything was there in the framework.  All I had to do was type.  Here is the zipped mod.

Hi Nice Site. I liked the updates you made to CS. Hopefully I'll get mine to look as cool as yours some day Smile

Sushant,  Thanks so much for visiting.  I welcome your input anytime on how I can do this CS blogging thing better.

Brendan, thanks!  That's quite a compliment coming from you.  I must warn you, I might get a life someday and you'll have to find another go-to guy.

Nahhhhh!

Hi Dave - I really like the way you did the category mod, very educational about skins as well, which is great as I am new to all CS! Now I want to try your Gallery mod for Blogs. One question, it all compiles and works great but in the design Visual Studio designer the components show "Error Creating Control" because "No CSContext exists in the Current Application. AutoCreate fails since HTTPContext.Current is not accessible". The means I can't set the properties. Is there a fix for this or have I got something wrong?

Thanks for the open source approach, much appreciated!

Doc,  Sorry for not having gotten back sooner.  I THINK I understand the issue, and the answer is DON'T USE THE DESIGNER.  Kinda like the doctor joke, "Doctor, it hurts when I..."

This isn't helpful, I know, but I haven't ever used the designer in VS.NET and don't know of any CS modders out there who do.  I just don't see how that's possible with something like CS.

Sorry for not having a better answer.

Actually your answer helps me a lot, thanks! I won't feel bad about not being able to get the designer to work any more!! I just wonder where all the CS controls and their properties are documented, or do you just figure it out from existing code?

I got your mod for the Gallery working Smile and the Refresh problem seems to have gone away - the Category List persists without it so I guess a new build fixed something somewhere! It is a great feature.
