Honest, he is.
Okay, maybe Cool Carl Himself isn't in my car, but a CD of DotNet Rocks is in my car and for the first time I can drive to the grocery store and listen to Carl and Rory on the way!
See, I don't know how to use computers to do anything FUN. I don't. Oh, I love to code, to write applications, and to me that's a fun time, but I don't do cool things like other people do with computers. I have four computers in my office and they're all for doing work. Visual Studio, Photoshop, Illustrator, SQL Server, Microsoft Office, and Quicken. They run either Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server, and getting multimedia kicks aren't one of the strengths of this particular blue collar configuration.
So I snuck down the hall to my wife's office tonight to use her computer running Windows XP and downloaded a DotNet Rocks episode from July 12th with Tim Huckaby on Smart Clients. This was a tough choice, but Tim edged out the other show selections for me. It took me a bit to figure out how to do it (because I don't know how to do anything fun on computers), but I was actually able to burn the interview onto CD, took it to my car, and it worked.
Wow. I might actually start to learn how to enjoy computers for something other than writing code!
Postscript: Earlier this year I actually drove Cool Carl from a Vermont Dot Net meeting to where he was staying here in Burlington, Vermont. It was a thrill for a simple nerd like me to have Carl in my car.
