Catching the Time

I figured it was getting late and since I need to be up at 7:00 tomorrow I thought I should check the time before writing another post.  So I typed "time" into Google and this is what I got back.  What's interesting is the fact that because Google "knows me" it displays my Burlington, Vermont time.  That's hard to beat.

Dave,
That is a cool feature.  But a little deceiving. They actually appear to be using the IP address registration information.

I try it from home I get Chelmsford MA, yes I live in NH.  But Comcast host name has Chemlsford MA as my reverse DNS.  I try in from my server in Texas, and I get an Washington DC.  Assume that is where my ISP is registered, so IP ownership probably goes back there.  But that is the wrong timezone for Texas.  So not real accurate in that case.

Interested approach.

Type the following into the Google Search box: "time:Burlington, Vermont" or "time:Austin, Texas".  I use it to quickly convert between time zones (as Google also accepts the time zone abbreviation), but most frequently to get GMT, "time:GMT".

Tim and Jonathan, thanks for your additional info on this.  Interesting!  I've got the time down now!
