The books I ordered last week from Amazon are starting to arrive. Four down, three to go. One of the books that arrived today was a hardback version of Alvin Toffler's Powershift. I liked The Third Wave a lot, but my favorite Toffler will always be Powershift. It's on my twice-read list, but I read a paperback copy both times. I thought it was time to treat myself to the hardback version.
I love the experience of receiving a new book in the mail. The ritual is always the same. I grab my best scissors and carefully cut open the container, rub my left hand over the front cover, then gently open the book to read the preface and table of contents. But opening the Powershift envelope was special, and I think the reseller (basementseller101) knew it, too, because the book was individually wrapped in plastic inside the envelope.
I mark-up every book I read with notations in the margins, scribbles and brackets are everywhere. It's going to be difficult marking up this beautiful classic of a book. Maybe I'll read the paperback a third time.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
