Whoa, give me a second. Phoebe Snow just started singing Poetry Man.... Ahhhhhhh.
Where was I? Oh, yes. I finally emailed my Code Camp 5 presentation to
Thom Robbins today, the best darn employee on the Microsoft Payroll! Well, maybe second only to
Scott Guthrie. :-)
I had the abstract written for weeks, but then I lost my job (and as Tim "Hustler" Haines
describes it, bitched about it on my blog and looked for sympathy--yeah, so he was right, okay????) Funny when you go through a transitional event like losing a job; you feel like you're running around like crazy, yet incredibly inert and not getting anything accomplished. Or maybe it's just me. Wait, that was
before I lost my job!
But the abstract is finally on its way to Thom in Waltham, MA. The presentation title is "Core Community Server 2.0." My first Code Camp presentation was...wow, only a year ago! It was titled "Customizing dotText." Think of how much has happened in the dotText / Community Server world in the last year. Amazing!
Here's the abstract.
In this session we will be digging into the Community Server 2.0 source with a focus on customizing and extending CS 2.0. We will cover how to setup and configure CS in VS2005 for ongoing development, extend the Telligent FreeTextBox wrapper, create Custom CS Plug-in Modules, work with Master Pages, Templates and Skins, and create custom controls and applications within the CS Application Framework. While we’re at it we’ll take a look at advanced ASP.NET practices from the Telligent A-Team that makes CS 2.0 the rockin’est blogging application on the planet. As a sidenote on Code Camp 5, the current
session list doesn't seem nearly as extensive and wide-ranging as previous Code Camps. Maybe there are a lot of sessions in the wings, I hope so, but if you're thinking about doing a presentation (and Code Camp is a GREAT vehicle to get some presentation chops), then send it in!
