I finally submitted my presentation abstract to Code Camp 7 tonight, titled "Building Business Applications with Community Server." I'll be demonstrating a prototype CS2007 site that I put together to sell one of my clients on the idea of using Community Server for a new application that is essentially a project and document management app. It should be fun because I'll be walking through the presentation I just gave this company president on Monday.
From a developer's perspective there is so much to leverage in Community Server when considering a new application, even if it isn't a classic "Online Community" site. Out-of-the-box there is full role-based security and user management, for starters, and for working with documents as in this scenario, FTP auto-entry support, moderated folders with event notification, document content searching (with Enterprise Search--pretty impressive searching with SearchBarrel alone), tagging technology, extensive syndication support throughout, and other business-process functions that I'll cover in the presentation. These are features that would cost much more to build than to buy, even with the wacked restricted licensing coming with CS2007.

Community Server is much more than an application for building online communities. It can serve as a framework for build business applications as well. In this presentation we're going to walk through an actual CS prototype site that I customized and used to demonstrate to a client the out-of-the-box technology in CS that could be leveraged as a framework for building a new project and document management application. We'll be using CS2007 and seeing some of its new features along the way.
