Gary McPherson with a simple 4-point plan on approaching a multi-version site upgrade, in this case from Community Server 1.1 to Community Server 2.1. One point that might not have been clear for me from Gary's excellent guidance was to remember to replace the web.config on each version upgrade and test the updated site before moving to the next. Also backing up the SQL database prior to running the next upgrade script never hurts. Sorry, didn't mean to complicate a clear plan, which Gary's guidance was.

Don't apologise Dave. I re-read my post and contemplated adding items to include backing up the database and config files, but decided to place my trust in the OP's common sense and keep the list in it's simplest form.
