DBVT.COM Now Sueetie 0.3.26 Compliant!

Nothing like a substantial upgrade of your website to lift your spirits.  This afternoon I put an upgraded version of DBVT.COM online that is now running BlogEngine.NET 1.5 and Gallery Server Pro 2.2.3402.  I also wrapped the site in the latest Sueetie framework bits for better integration and a few new features.

First to BlogEngine.NET 1.5.  It’s such a pleasure upgrading BlogEngine.NET, knowing that with each release you’ll enjoy even better performance than the last.  And BlogEngine.NET was always fast. Version 1.5 is no exception.  Other major improvements in 1.5 are better Live Writer integration (including tags), clean JQuery support, nested comments, and an upgraded TinyMCE editor.  Other than theming, the only customization I did with DBVT.COM was the usual expansion of Stylin category posts and the addition of a twitter stream icon, something I wanted to do for a while now.

I was a couple of versions behind on Gallery Server Pro, so I needed to get up to speed.  Many nice touches in the latest version with better performance, but the main reason I needed to upgrade GSP was because Roger is working on version 2.3 and it’s going to be great.  I wanted to be ready to upgrade as soon as it became available.

As for wrapping DBVT.COM in the latest Sueetie framework bits, the current DBVT.COM pre-dated the initial release of Sueetie.  The site supported ASPNET Membership for single sign-in, but I was using the BlogEngine.NET login page and while everything worked there wasn’t much there.

With today’s upgrade I have the Sueetie standalone login page with full site membership and user profiling support, administration, Sueetie User and Application object access across the site, and whatever framework pieces I want to add going forward.  Below is the new Sueetie DBVT.COM administration piece, for instance.

Yessir, call my spirits lifted!

Heya Dave, I need to get the latest Sueetie Core & Web.  The last update that I downloaded doesn't seem to work the same way as yours does.  I think it's just a file sync thing, so I'm currently using BlogEngine.NET to login.  I chatted with the main contributor of BE and was able to get 1.5 to work.  Let's just say that they haven't written very many large apps and know very little about error handling and how web.configs work.  Smile

Hey, Bill!

You mean it doesn't work like DBVT.COM?  Is BE.NET not playing well with membership?  I noticed with BE 1.5 here that I needed to go with the SqlRoleProvider whereas before the DBRoleProvider did the job.  Otherwise I haven't touched the Core or Web since Rhode Island Mansion Week.

And lay off those BlogEngine.NET developers.  They're the tops!!!

See what happens when you take a week's vacation? All sorts of Sueetie progress! It must be the sea air, fine food and family that does the trick. Good progress, but when is your next break?

Nick,  thanks for checking in and for sharing some of that tried-and-true British wisdom.

The week's plan is to upgrade Sueetie Core to BE 1.5 and get a bunch of updates sitting on my development server onto http://sueetie.org.  Will keep you apprised from this side of the pond.

Thanks,
Dave

Hey Dave, looks like you have an IIS issue with the Sueetie site.   It's working from http://www.sueetie.org/, but it is not working from http://sueetie.org/.  I'll create a new thread/post on the problems that we ran into.  Also, it looks like the update notification emails aren't being sent out for either here or the Sueetie Forums.

P.S.  Nevermind about the IIS issue, it looks like BE created the wrong link and added a "." to the end.  Smile

Thanks for the reminder on "www."  Definitely need to bump that up on the framework queue, even though it's not a problem.

Hmm, notifications are working on MY machine... Smile  You're referring to Forum notifications, right?

I'm not getting notifications about comments from this post, or any other post on DBVT.com, and the same problem with the Sueetie forum notifications.  I'll check my SMTP server to see if they are being blocked.

I just checked the SMTP server logs and nothing has come in from DBVT or Sueetie.
