DBVT.COM goes CS2007

DBVT.COM has been upgraded to Community Server 2007.  I've been so busy working with Community Server that I was way behind in getting my own site upgraded, but after a stretch of late night geek sessions, we're up!

As usual, DBVT.COM is a full-site original theme.  I designed it on top of the old CS leanandgreen theme.  As for the site's new look, I've been subscribing to several site design feeds for a while to get ideas and a Dutch site petitioning against bad bus service caught my eye.  You can see my tribute to the site in the home page comparisons below.  The other DBVT.COM site pages are more similar to past DBVT.COM themes, with the new background image being a photo of a sailboat that I took on Lake Champlain.

In other geek points of interest, I'm using Brendan Tompkins' excellent CAPTCHA control.  To continue adding running blog photos with my Multi-Photo Selector app I upgraded the app's Galleries Web Service to CS2007, and to continue creating Community Server Bits I upgraded my List Blog CSModule to CS2007.

I'm pretty sure I explored every nook and cranny in Firefox, IE7 and IE6, but if you find any wierdness, please let me know.

Hey, Dave!  Thanks a lot!  It's growing on me.  Still quite similar to my earlier themes, and still pretty conservative, but yeah, I like it, too.  More to do yet.  I'm taking a little break now that the site's up.  Thanks again for the comment.

I think it's great.  Very clean and I like the subtle details that you've got going on - like the background of your left nav.  I think this is the first time I've stopped by in while and I see you're now "The Dave Burke Group".  Congrats and best of luck.

Thanks for dropping by, Erik!  The background on the boxes was another idea I took from the Dutch busing protest site.

Thanks for the good wishes on "The Dave Burke Group."  That came to be as a result of becoming a Microsoft Empowered ISV, a great program from Microsoft similar to MSDN Subscriptions that I need to blog about.  I needed a name to apply, so I went with "Dave Burke Group" in tribute to "The Richard Hale Shaw Group."  I like Richard a lot, so I thought that would be fun.  Also, to qualify for the ISV program a preliminary agency verifies that you have the ISV company name with contact information listed on the site home page.  I'm still a one-man band though.  The only problem with the name is that there's already a "Burke Group."  So I might want to change it.  Always great hearing from you, Erik.

Hey Dave, its about time.  Smile  I need to customize mine quite a bit, so you've got me there.  Unfortunately I have more pressing things to complete before I can get back to it.  I posted a teaser today, which I think may make a few people happy when I get it fully working.  Take it easy...

Yeah, Bill.  I saw the teaser.  So you're going to be the new Calendar Man of Community Server?  If so, people will love you.  Besides the CS2007 new licensing thread, the thread on the Calendar is the most popular thread on cs.org, I think.  I'm glad you're doing that and I'm looking forward to what you come up with.  I wrote a calendar app myself recently and will need to blog about it.  Mine is more of an events app where a single blog post can appear over a date range selected from the calendar.  Thanks for the comments, Bill.

Yep, that's the plan.  I've been having a little trouble creating a complex Chameleon control as none of the base classes are designed to allow you to do this, so I'm being forced to override more code than I should have to.  When I'm done, I'll propose some additions to Ben that will make this much easier to do this in the future, which are 100% compatible with the current system.  How's Vermont?  Is it warming up yet?  Smile

You should charge for the calendar, btw.  You didn't hear that from me though.  Yeah, Vermont is starting to warm up.  It was almost 80 the other day but thank god the temperatures dropped down into the 40s today where they're supposed to be in Vermont in May! Smile

Dave, you're giving me bad ideas.  Smile

BTW, I was trying to read your blogs from the client site today, but your site is blocked as being a personal homepage.  Frown  Do you have some meta-tags that may be making their systems thing this?

Geez, Bill.  Sounds like you need to dump that client!

Seriously, thanks for the info.  That's a first to being blocked as a homepage.  I modified my site name from "Dave Burke" to a fuller description.  Maybe that will help. There has been something going on though, since Google hates dbvt.com for some reason, and it's not anything http-related since everything comes up clean in Fiddler.  I'm hoping a fresh propogation with CS2007 will gain some google acceptance, but nothing yet.

WOOHOO!!! Yer site is working now.  You are no longer a personal home page.  I checked about an hour ago and your site was still being blocked.  I'm gonna see if I can get this dang control to work tonight.  GRRRR!!!
