DBVT.COM is relocated, baby!

DBVT.COM is finally enjoying its well-deserved, comfy digs in a new Virtual Private Server Community.  Don't tell my wife, but I'm paying a few more bucks for hosting services now, but it is $OOOO worth it.  This is one of those moves where there is no going back to shared hosting.  It would be like going back to watching TV without a DVR or something.

There was no down time at all.  I setup the website, created and refreshed the DBVT database, tested it locally, changed DNS nameserver info at my DNS host, altered the home page slightly to tell me if I was hitting the new site, and headed out for a 6 mile run.  When I got back I loaded dbvt.com and saw my home page secret message.  Au-to-matic!

I'll tell you more about the new digs when I can, but it's a beautiful day in Vermont, so I'll see ya later!

Everything looks to be working as planned!  So are you still at WH4L and HostMySite just hosts your DNS or did you move hosting companies all together?

Erik, I'm not sure what I can say about the host.  It's a full VPS on a server recently setup by a very talented pal who setup a hosting service to cut down on his own expenses.  He invited a few folks to join up and I was lucky enough to be one of them.  He's not actually open for business though.  I emailed him about what I can say about the enterprise, and haven't heard back yet.  So I figured if he talks about it, I can talk about it.  Otherwise, I'll be a happy silent customer.

HostMySite is where I hosted dbvt.com before going with WH4L.  HostMySite still hosts my DNS, yes.  They're a great company and I'm glad I can still give them some business.  I have nothing on WH4L now at all.  While their VPS plan was attractively priced and I was looking into it, they didn't provide certain essential features like remote access or MS Queue on the $59.99 monthly plan for instance.

Thanks for visiting and for asking about the particulars.

Sorry, I should have been more direct with my question.  I was curious about your DNS hosting and if you were paying for it or not.  I've been using ZoneEdit for a long time and they've been good and then I've seen EveryDNS but never have used them (both are free).

Sounds like you're set and can now develop without the straight jacket that hosting companies put on people.  Giddy Up!

HostMySite.com for my DNS.  $6.95 a year or something like that.  I kept it with them when I went to WebHost4Life for hosting.  I'm thinking of transferring to goDaddy, actually.
