A new Gummy Bear version 1.2 should be available in the next few weeks, so I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade DBVT.COM to get a feel for the details and work out the kinks. There were two other motivations for upgrading DBVT.COM, 1) I hate those spambot auto-registration accounts I’ve been seeing in Sueetie User Administration. Not a massive amount, but enough to piss me off. After applying Sueetie hidden captcha to Sueetie.com I’ve seen no spambot accounts created. None. And 2) Al Nyveldt and his team released BlogEngine.NET 1.6 this week. Very exciting, and at the top of my DBVT.COM and Sueetie.com TODO lists. Before I could upgrade to BE.NET 1.6 on DBVT.COM I needed to be running the latest Sueetie framework bits.
What we gained in the upgrade was the hidden captcha registration support I just mentioned. Activity Logging is in place on DBVT.COM as a result of the upgrade, along with related updates like Media Gallery items now being automatically added to Sueetie Data Core rather than requiring a separate administrative step like before. Asynchronous Email now supports both individual and batch emailing.
The Applications Administration piece completes the DBVT.COM updates. If you’ve looked at the screenshot on the announcement you can compare how the DBVT.COM application structure differs from the Sueetie.com application structure. It’s a good demonstration of how Sueetie Application Administration enables contextual intelligence for multiple community applications regardless of the application location or function.
You’ll notice on the DBVT.COM Applications Administration page below that certain applications like forums and marketplace are not active. This allows us, for instance, to add logic on new DBVT.COM registrations to prevent the creation of YetAnotherForum.NET accounts.
You’ll also notice that the Media Gallery on DBVT.COM has the appkey (and location) of “photos,” while it’s “media” on Sueetie.com. The SueetieApplications class treats them both the same.
Well, enough blogging about the DBVT.COM upgrade. It’s time to spend some quality time getting to know BlogEngine.NET 1.6!
