Dude, I think I ordered a Dell!

I can't say for sure, but I think I ordered a Dell at lunchtime today.  Confidence is high.  The order status says "In Production" and my Dell Preferred Account Available Balance dropped from $5000 to $3404.58, so those are two positive indicators that a new Inspiron E1705 is heading to Vermont.

I went with an Inspiron E1705 with a 17" monitor, DuoCore processor, 120GB HD, XP Pro, 2GB of RAM.  If it's good enough for Jimmy Shaw, then it's good enough for me.  And I followed his advice this time with the Dell online order process, "Keep your eyes down and walk straight to the checkout. Don't go back for another look."

A big THANK YOU to all of you who shared my pain and offered advice after my Dell order fiasco a few days ago.  You guys are too good to me.  As for considering laptops from other companies, I guess I always figured I was going to buy a Dell laptop.  And since the last laptop I bought was in 1995 I had a lot of time to think about it.  Even if I had to buck-up, shake off a bad experience, turn my head and cough, I was going to try again, darn it.

Awesome, I hope you'll be as pleased with it as I am.

Which display did you get? I just received my E1705 today with WXGA+ display. I do *not* like it. I should have spent the extra $119 to get the best display option.

Oh, great!  Now I have a nasty display to look forward to!

Yeap, the WXGA+.  Why don't you like it?

It could just be my eyes. The particular one I received seems too dim. And you know how if you look straight on at the display, you can pretty much read it, but if you move to an angle, you can't see it anymore? If I looked straight at the screen, the outer 1/2 inch on both right and left sides started to become blurry due to the angle. I assumed the display is *not* defective.

Sorry, Sean.  I'll let you know about my perspective on the display...if it comes.  Hey, you are a pretty visual guy, so maybe your operational requirements are higher than mine?  Thanks for getting back on the display.

Hope all goes well with your purchase.  I got the E1505 back in April and really like it.  I too got the WXGA+ with TrueLife but I have the opposite issue than Sean...I think its too bright.  I can dim it down and it looks great; nice and clean for an IDE.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it and get lots of use out of it.

Hi, Erik.  Thanks for the positive thoughts and for sharing your experience.  I just checked at Dell and UPS tracking says its supposed to arrive at my door today.  Getting nervous...
