Unless you live in the Burlington, Vermont area or just happen to enjoy restaurant reviews, this post is off topic. For the 6 Vermont Nerds out there who read my blog (I know who you are), I thought you might like a review of Rositas, a new restaurant on Shelburne Road where Cactus Pete's used to be.
My wife and I are big Mexican food fans, so we had to try Rosita's. We were pulling into the parking lot when I said to my wife, "Something tells me that this is going to suck." My wife said she felt the same thing. But being Mexican food fans....
First we go in and there is NO atmosphere. None. The walls were painted in muted tones and didn't have a single print on them. The waitresses were nice, but I wasn't waiting to hear them chatter in Spanish like I might overhear the fellas at La Caretta's, the excellent Mexican restaurant just down the road. The service was okay. Nothing special.
The house margarita was the same price as at most restaurants, around $6.00, but it was considerably smaller than what you'd get elsewhere. And it was AWFUL! Truly one of the worse margaritas I ever drank. It had plenty of tequila in it though, so I didn't send it back. The waitress almost talked me into another one (high tequila content, you know), but I quickly came to my senses realizing that if the bartender in a Mexican Restaurant screws up your margarita, you don't make the mistake of ordering another one.
The menu had maybe 15 items on it. VERY pitiful menu. But what it lacked in variety it made up for in price. It was EXPENSIVE! Typical entree at La Caretta's is $8.95. Here, the average price was $15.95.
The food was bland and proportions were barely adequate, especially when considering mine was $15.95 and my wife's cost $16.95.
We ate and asked for the check to get the hell out of there. $54 bucks with the tip. What a ream job. My wife was on call and wasn't drinking and all I had in the drink department was that single nasty house margarita, so it's not like we ran up a drink bill.
I never posted a restaurant review on my blog, but I know I've got some local buds who might consider checking out this place. Please do yourself and your loved-ones a favor and don't!
