Geek Smatterings: dasNewLook, Foxit, ZenReader, MetaSmatterings

DASBLONDE WANNABE.  Julie Lerman blogs about the new look of the dasBlonde Blog.  Very nice.  I'm going to have to do something similar when CS 2.0 comes out.  Add a new headshot in the page corner, like Michele's.  Yessir, I can throw some dasBurke spice up there.  Of course, I'm going to have to get another picture taken.  My current angle is all wrong.  But other than that...

BONUS SMATTERING INSPIRED BY WANTING TO DASBLONDE-GLAM MY BLOG.  Thinking of doing a glam thing with my own mug like the dasBlonde did, I remember a line from the movie Tootsie, which I haven't seen since the 80's.  Tootsie (Dustin Hoffman in drag) is doing a screen test for a soap TV show.  Cameras are rolling.  The executive director from the booth says, "I'd like to make her look a little more attractive, how far can you pull back?"  The camera man replies, "How do you feel about Cleveland?"

NUTHER GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE FOXIT USER SPOTTED.  Scott Hanselman is not only a rock-n-roll .NET developer, he also stays close to the most useful technologies coming online.  One such discover he passed along was Foxit, an Adobe Acrobat Reader replacement.  Dang right, the quality of my life is better not having to deal with the bulk, complexity and startup CPU cycles required of Acrobat Reader.  Hey, if I pull off this dasBlonde DBVT.COM/Blog glam thing, you can call me the Foxy Foxit user.

ZENREADING FOR LIFE.  ComputerZen Guy, Scott Hanselman, not only wants to be King of the Technorati ASP.NET heap, he wants to take over the world with non-.NET topic posts, too.  To that obvious end, he wrote an excellent article on Preparedness in the Real World.  Very smart youngster, that Zenster.

METASMATTERINGS:  KINDA LIKE BIRD DROPPINGS BUT CRUNCHIER.  New Delicious daveburkevt category is now online for all Geek Smatterings references.  Who says I don't put the best interests of my readers first???

Wow this blog has really a nice design.
I'm curious to see what you could do in the future with the new CS 2.0. You're the magician of CS's customization and I'm sure that your future work on design will the the best! Smile

Stefano, You're too kind, as usual.  Yes, we're due for a change again with CS 2.0.  I like to modify the basic style with each new release--since I'm moding the source anyway.  Here's a site of a local musician that I discovered the other night and really like it!  I'm thinking of doing something along those style lines, starting with a white banner at the top (instead of green) and seeing what happens from there.  Cheers!

Greg Douglass sounds pretty good, Dave. I like when artists include samples of their songs on their site. Are you a fan? I might even pick up the CD.

Mabster, I've been thinking about you in my recent quests for good Independent Music.  I bought Douglass' "Teeter" album from audiolunchbox.  Pure MP3's and no DRM.  His others are available on iTunes and elsewhere.  I have a post I wanted to do on Independent Music and will do that soon.  I enjoy your posts on the subject, btw.

You should definitely check out Art of Fighting (from Melbourne), Dave. I think you'd like 'em. Sarah Blasko, too. Oh, and Clare Bowditch. I'm such an Aus-music pimp! Tong

Mabster Man, I will DEFINITELY check on each of them, maybe pumping some American dollars into the Aus-music scene.  Thanks!
