One of the key features of moving from a web-based architecture to a Smart Client model (what I've been doing these days) is being able to extend the application onto smart devices, namely PocketPCs and Windows Mobile-based SmartPhones. So if the PDA market were dominated by, say, Palm, that would certainly put a damper on penetration into the smart device space. But the good news for Borg coders like me is that according to an article in vnunet.com and elsewhere, Palm sales are in a freefall and currently hold only 17.8% of the PDA hardware market, compared with 33.2% last year. As for OS sales, PalmSource now holds but 20% of the market, down from 40%. According to vnunet.com, MS dominates the sector at 45%. I don't care what Whoopi says about them, the Collective definitely knew what they were doing when enhancing support for mobile devices in the .NET 2.0 Framework.
