Goodbye RSS Bandit v1.3.0.38, Hello RSS Bandit v1.3.0.29!

I don't "live" in RSS Bandit, but I spend a LOT of time there.  (For the record I don't live in Outlook either.  I mostly live in Visual Studio.)  So I was excited when Dare released the newest version of RSS Bandit and immediately downloaded it.  The upgrade was smooth and while there seemed to be little different in the overall look of .38 I did notice it was definitely zippier than .29.

I went to add a new feed and discovered the New Feed Wizard.  It's your conventional multi-page wizard, and as wizards go, it's a nice one.  But I liked the simple .29 new feed popup form better.  Much better.

And then I hit the reader pane bug.  Pane-in-the-butt bug.  (Screenshot at bottom.  See that big empty spot?)  The reader pane would simply stop working, which meant non-read items would not automatically display in the reader pane and I'd have to click on individual items to view the contents.  Way too much clicking.  A definite deal-breaker.  I posted about it on a RSS Bandit Forums thread, but didn't see any follow-up, which is okay since RSS Bandit is, um, free.

Time to move on, so I downloaded the Feed Demon trial version.  It took me less than five minutes to conclude that I hated the Channels metaphor for navigation.  I'm a Folders Metaphor Man.  I had folders with RSS Bandit and folders in NewsGator before that.  I don't want no stinkin' channels.

So hello RSS Bandit v.1.3.0.29.  You're slow, but you'll go.

Haven't noticed that bug yet.  I'll be looking out for it now.  Boy - I think I'd take the extra click anyway...  Wink

I figured you'd have someone do the extra clicking for you, Hustler. Smile  (That's a joke.)  Like I said .38 was definitely zippier, but I didn't notice too much of a loss going back to .29.  Thanks for you comment, Tim!

It's hard to diagnose problems when there is no information on what feeds failed or what stylesheet you are using.

Dare, Absolutely right!

ALL the feeds failed, buddy.  Default stylesheet used.  The Reader Pane just stopped working when RSS Bandit lost focus.

A couple other diagnostic points may be that I'm using Windows 2003 Server (all updates applied) and Mathon is my default browser.

Thanks very much for visiting and I hope you didn't take my post as a criticism.  I love RSS Bandit and appreciate your work (not just in RSS Bandit) to the extreme, especially when you tussle with Scoble.

Thanks!

One other point I mentioned on the forum, it fails when RSS Bandit loses focus and I going into some other application.  When I return to RSS Bandit the Reader Pane stops working.  Just blank, regardless of what feed or category I click on.  Thanks.
