This is something that I've been thinking about a lot lately which is why I appreciate Jayson's reminder. I listen to Web Radio almost every day, some days all day long while working out of my home office. It enhances the quality of my life tremendously and I hate to think that those bastard RIAA suits want to shut it down by imposing disproportionate royalty rates on Web Radio Webcasters as they did earlier this month.
Jayson provided a link to an automated Congress.org email service, which I just used to inform my Vermont Congressmen of the need to take action on this. The email service works great and requires very little effort. Enter a zip code and your Congressional representatives are displayed with a canned letter about the Web Radio Webcasting issue. Then on a second page you can add a personal message along with your contact info, which is required.
It's so easy. If you want to exert even less energy, you are more than welcome to copy and paste my personal message below. Be sure to remove the Vermont references though first!
Gentlemen,
I am proud to have voted for each of you and of the great job you are doing in Congress. I hope you are aware of the recent disproportionate royalty rates imposed on web radio webcasters by the Recording Industry. This action is unjust and threatens the continuation of a business model that is still in its infancy. Web radio webcasting enriches the lives of so many Vermonters like me. I listen to it all day long while working out of my home office in South Burlington and would hate to think it was taken away by the greed of the RIAA and Congressional complicity. If you would please do what you could to rectify this wrong, I and others would be very grateful to you.
