Introducing CS Bits

There's been a disturbance in The Force that was unleashed when the Community Server Daily News went supernova. Community Server users everywhere are fighting to restore the balance of Community Server information power in the galaxy. Daily News-like publications are rising up from the ashes to fill the void.  As for this citizen's contribution to the service of the Alliance to Restore the Information Republic, I give you...Community Server Bits!

Each composite issue will be a CS Byte, a collection of CS Bits.  Unlike the DN, I won't be getting paid to do this and there are only so many hours in a day.  I don't know how often we're going to publish, how long our run will be or what we're going to end up with, but we're going to start with a recurring post that will look much like the Community Server Daily News as you can see in the first issue.

I always enjoyed compiling the day's Community Server news and reference points, I enjoyed reading it when I was done and learning from the expertise of others in the community. I also believe in the List Blog model, a lot, where each Community Server information bit is individually tagged, searchable and reference-able with its own permalink. Added to those functions, new syndication, aggregation and reporting capabilites make it a model with interesting potential. I want to see what that potential might be, and that can only come with feeding and nurturing, which is where CS Bits come in. I'll have info on a new CS Bits blog (currently the DN List Blog) when I work through the details.  Creating the composite CS Byte posts will be of value to both me and the community, but my primary driver is building CS Bits.  That and I'm a Community Server maniac.

Thanks for the encouragement, Dan!  I thought I'd take the holiday season to formulate a plan and get things underway.  We'll see what happens when the rubber hits the road in 2007.

Thanks Dave. You da man.

I can't tell you how sad I was to read that you wouldn't be doing the CSDN anymore :-(  So, this is great news that you'll still be spreading the news (as much as time permits, hehe)

Sounds eerily similar to CS Tidbits Wink...I keed (but damn I should've TM'd it!).

I'm with the rest of the folks when I say I already miss the DN, so hopefully this'll fill the void...looking forward to it!

Ryan, thanks!  That gives me motivation to keep spreading the news.

X.Static, I didn't consider the "Tidbit Connection."  Sorry, man.  Your CS Tidbits stand alone though.  I won't be infringing, I'm sure.  Brand differentiation is definitely pretty hard to come by in the Community Server info space.  Among the brands currently we have CS Forums Faqbits, Duncan Nuggets, my CS Nuglets, Jaxon's CS Tips, the K-man's CS Dev Guides, your CS TidBits, and now CS Bytes and Bits.

I also like "Smatterings" and we're not locked-in yet, but I do like the concept of a byte being a collection of bits and bits being the most granular information level available, which is what I'm going for in the List Blog.  Thanks for your support in this in spite of the brand delusion issue. Smile
