IssueVision Series

I'll be blogging on IssueVision in the days and weeks to come while I use it as a sample application on getting up to speed on Smart Client best practices.

I feel way behind the curve as I just now begin working with IssueVision over a year since its release at DevDays 2004, but its got some great stuff in it and when I saw it at DevDays I was immediately impressed with it.  Besides, Susan Warren was part of the development team at Vertigo who built it.  Can't beat that!  Here's a good summary of IssueVision from Swingin' Shannon Hagar. If you happen to go to the Windows Forms Applications page, you'll see TaskVision listed at the top and think its the sample app of choice which you should be investigating.  TaskVision is a Microsoft sample app which pre-dates IssueVision.  Similar, but no cigar.  I'm going with the iV.

Working with IssueVision also gives me the opportunity to go back to DevDays 2004 and revisit the Smart Client sessions, covering Smart Client design, data access, security, and deployment and maintainence.  Here's an old post with pics from the DVD.  Good stuff!

If I wasn't such a big David Lee Roth fan, and didn't mark the year of the death of Van Halen at 1984, I probably wouldn't get so annoyed when people spell my last name wrong...

You know, you reminded me of this about a year ago.  I'm sorry I screwed up again.  Van Halen ROCKS!!!!

I'll get it right in the future, Hager Man.  Apologies.

I did very much appreciate your post on IssueVision!

I'm glad the post was useful, I couldn't find much info elsewhere so I decided a post was in order.  I think there used to be comments on that post that were lost in a very sad month of server-hopping.

Does anyone know if there is an updated smart client reference application that takes into account newer technologies like Windows Communication Foundation and click once now that vs.2005 is out?

Steve.  Short answer is NOPE!  But I'd love to see one, too!  Thanks so much for visiting.

Try a year and a half! BTW, I can't install MSDE at work, nor do I have access to SQL Server, so I modified IssueVision Web Service to utilzie Access Back-end and converted the database for use with access, solely as a learning tool, and posted it on my site.

It's the CompositeUI Application Block, It provides proven practices to build complex smart client user interfaces based on well known design patterns such as the Composite pattern, in which simple user interface parts can be combined to create complex solutions, but at the same time allowing these parts to be independently
