I'll never tire of thanking Julie Lerman for all the things she's made happen for me: getting started with blogging, giving presentations, new relationships, etcetera ad nerdsium. She did it again today when she clued me in on a new hotel in Waltham, MA that makes it possible for me to attend Code Camp 6.
I called the Westin Waltham-Boston this morning where I stayed for Code Camps past. An email arrived for me this morning since I'm a Starwood Preferred Guest, or some such nonsense. "Exclusive rates for New England residents! $169 weekend rates through October 31st. Reserve your room now!" Within a minute I was on the website looking at my exclusive rates thinking, "this can't be right!" So I picked up the phone and talked to Sanya in reservations with my special New England Resident promotional code on screen.
"The best room rate currently available is $189.00, with charges and taxes that would be $207.33 a night. Should I book it for you?"
"Book it for me??? I called you because I received an email just seconds ago that began with 'Dear Dave Burke,' and said I could book a room for $169 a night for an exclusive rate as a New England resident. I want THAT room!"
"Mr. Burke, that email went out to you and about three million other people," and she chuckled to disarm me (Dang chicks! Gets me every time), "so that rate is obviously no longer available. Should I book the best rate room for you?"
I learned long ago not to argue with trained monkeys, regardless how articulate or disarming they may be, so I gave her my best "not exactly" and hung-up the phone.
I really thought I wasn't going to make it to Code Camp 6: Devs on a Plane this year. But thanks to Julie Lerman making it happen for me--again--you will see me there!!!
Here's the URL to the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel. Julie blogged about it a few minutes ago. Everything she mentioned was correct except for the location of the party. Everyone knows that the party will be in JULIE'S room.
Hm. I hope it's not too late to register for Code Camp 6.
Or submit a session abstract.
