Something I like about my current site is that DNN looks like nGallery which looks like dotText. You can't tell one from the other except for the graphic elements I added to each section to distinguish one from another. That consistent look-n-feel is important to me and something I want to make a part of the initial rollout of my CS site, which at launch will consist of a home page, CSGalleries and CSBlogs.
What I'm doing to facilitate that consistency (and the rollout!) is replacing the root default.aspx CS page with my own simple page patterned after the /Themes/Blogs/DBVT/LayoutTemplate.ascx design and my blog skin.css. I didn't need DotNetNuke in my current site architecture, and I don't need a CS-derived home page this time around. I am not enabling CSForums, so that leaves CSGalleries, for which I will use the default/style/gallery.css and again pattern it on my blog skin.css stylesheet.
Its easier being a single-site blogger and not requiring a skin to perform double duty between CSForums, CSGalleries, and the home page. Throwing out the default CS home page simplifies the situation as well. There is a lot of Telligent intelligence behind the scenes supporting the CSS and page handling logic which I hope to understand some day. For now my objective is knocking out my personal custom Pre-Release Must Do's so I can get this thing online. Understanding is later.
