Dave Burke : Freelance .NET Web Developer specializing in Online Communities

My first mention in Dave Winer's blog

Dave Winer posted today,

Dave Burke: Cory Doctorow goes off the rails. "Scoble tries to make a point, and Cory's response is to interrupt him with an eloquent, 'tough shit.'"

Gosh, it sure was great to get a mention on Dave's weblog, but it wasn't me who said that.  It was a post by Christopher Baus.  I merely left a comment on the page, but agreeing with Christopher pretty much point-by-point.  Here's the podcast link.  Well worth the listen.  I did think Cory was being antagonistic from the start and that Robert was being generous and courteous throughout.  I also mentioned that Cory did make a good case for the user having the best experience, and if Google Toolbar and autolinks accomplishes that, then so be it.  As a sidenote I mentioned in my comments and want to do so here, Cory's talk at Web 2.0 on the current work of EFF was excellent.  Cory is doing some very important work with the EFF which has a huge impact on us all.  Everyone should give that podcast a listen.

I only hope Dave Winer doesn't want to correct the error and point to my blog.  http://www.baus.net is getting SLAMMED.  Forget about viewing Christopher's original post for a while.  If you want to read it while his site recovers, email me and I'll forward my feed copy of it to you.

I don't know what is going on exactly with the link getting changed, but I was in the middle of test of new code, when all that traffic starting coming in., and my server was running pegged.  I was like oh shit!  Hopefully I've got it under control now.

It was wild.  I thought you were out skiing today and missing all of the fun.  That was a great (and quotable) post of yours on the podcast "goes off the rails."  Love it.  Jason Haley happened to mention it to me this morning in an email about something else, so I checked DaveW's blog and saw my name where your's should have been. Emailed DW and within minutes it was fixed.  Sweet.  I figured your server was overwhelmed with the traffic from the link, but you were messing with your proxy?????  That is so wild!  Like I said, you were supposed to go skiing today.

I wish I was.   I got up, and was like, oh damn,  guess that build isn't working so well.  Then I took a shower ate breakfast, and checked my citations.  I was like, "scripting.com" , Oh shit!  This is no time to be off line!  So I'm getting all this traffic and fucking around getting an old build up and running.  I'm starting to think I should take my uptime more seriously, if people want to take ME more seriously.

That's very similar to my thinking when I saw baus.net was down, thinking about what would happen if I were slashdotted or winerized.  (I don't think "winerized" is a valid term, but I think you know what I mean.)
Glad you're back up now.
