New England Code Camp 6: Announcing Nerds on the Run!

I am pleased to announce the inaugural New England Code Camp Nerds on the Run Saturday lunchtime run!  All Code Camp attendees are welcome to participate in a relaxing and invigorating 3 to 5 mile run from the Microsoft Waltham office during the Saturday lunchtime break.  The run will take between 30 to 45 minutes and we'll still have enough time for pizza before the afternoon sessions start.

The exact meeting time will be determined when the final schedule is available.  We'll meet in running gear by the Microsoft reception area near the elevator on the 6th floor, and lock our laptops and other gear in our cars on the way out.

The full title of this soon-to-be New England Code Camp Tradition is "The Jason Haley Memorial Nerds on the Run on a Plane."  We're not using the literal definition of "Memorial," of course, but all of us in the New England Nerd Community are still dealing with the absence of the Geek Godfather of Beantown after he and his lovely wife Susan moved to Seattle earlier this year.

The idea for Nerds on the Run wasn't mine, it was actually fellow New England Nerd and DotNetNuke Stud Jim Bonnie who proposed getting together for a pre-session AM run.  We both quickly realized that an early morning run was a bad idea on several levels, so we came up with a lunchtime run.  And a New England Code Camp Tradition was born.

Hope to see you there!

Hey, those guys are personal friends of mine!  What should we do, Cheese, establish a nerd biking event?  Smile  Thanks for visiting, as always.  We'll let you know how it goes.

LOL! Dave, ALL biking events are nerd events! Get a bunch of middle aged, Lance Armstrong wannabe men in spandex together on high-tech bikes and it you couldn't call it anything but nerdy (with apologies for the visual).

Hope you didn't mind the friendly comment, and take care!

Do we have to be in reasonable shape for this run?  I'm not but I'll give it a shot

See you Saturday

We'll look for you by the reception area, Gary.  The secret to running is run really slowly for as long as possible.  It's also a general guideline that as long as you can hold a conversation while running you're not overdoing it.  If any of us want to keep running longer or faster, we'll tack it onto the end.  Thanks for considering joining us!

I'm honored to have a Memorial Run named after me ...

Sorry I'm a little late on commenting - family in town and haven't been keeping up with the blogs this week ;).  Great idea I wish I could be there!

New England Code Camp will never be the same without you, Jason!  We know you'll be doing great things on the other coast though.  Thanks for the comment.

I was thinking this morning, now that Thom is leaving too ... you are right - never going to be the same.  It might be better Smile - but not the same.

BTW: I would like to come back for the one in spring if there is one ... but we'll see how that goes.

With Thom gone it might be a long flight in the Spring for nothing. Smile
