I'm on a quest to discover new Indie Bands. In the last week I sampled hundreds of bands, found maybe a handful that I really liked, and only scratched the surface. I know I should have been honing my skills with Anonymous Methods or Generics instead, but discovering new Indie Bands is more important at the moment.
I mentioned
Audio Lunchbox the other day, which is where I spent some of my recent latenight hours of Indie music discovery, but I've also been spending time at PureVolume.com. My PureVolume handle is "
DonutGeek," and you'll find my genre preferences and a few favorite artists on my PureVolume.com
profile.
The issue at hand in Independent Music--and for video and other media types in the future--is on improving the Art of Discovery. Finding those special artists that stand out in the sea of mediocrity is difficult indeed. How does one search for, say, a list of rock bands, preferrably in the New England area, that sound like the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based rock band
Upside? You don't, which is where Community comes into play and why sites like
MySpace.com have become so darn popular. If I'm looking for bands that sound like Upside, my best chance is going to an Upside community page at PureVolume.com or elsewhere and see what other fans of Upside listen to. The Fave Filter.
To that end, I welcome other geeks to share their independent music favorites with me at PureVolume.com or on whatever venue you so chose. A Fave Filter is a Fave Filter is a Fave Filter. I've added a blog sidebar link to my
PureVolume.com profile if you ever get the urge to do any Fave Filtering in the primary genres of Acoustic, Alternative, Rock, Christian Rock and Folk Rock.
