Gummy Bear 1.3 is almost here, so it’s time to tell you about the new and improved installation process. In previous versions we clicked a button to execute the framework SQL setup scripts, then we walked through the YetAnotherForum.NET Setup Wizard, then the Gallery Server Pro Setup Wizard, then clicked a link that ran a script to create application-dependent SQL objects.
Not painful considering the end result, but in Gummy Bear 1.3 those four steps are now a “Don’t Make Me Think!” one-click experience. Here’s the new Gummy Bear setup page that automatically displays the first time you go to the site after loading the website contents.

Okay, when I said, “one-click,” perhaps I should have said “two,” since the first link above pointed to by the arrow takes you to the new Setup and Configuration page below. That form's button is the real one-click star of our show.

The "configuration" details are Forums Board Name, Time Zone and Admin Email Address. I could have gotten rid of this step entirely, but improvements are incremental, and in the process of streamlining the current process I found myself in the YetAnotherForum.NET setup space and wanting a board name. Instead of streamlining further and delaying the release of Gummy 1.3 I drew the line at eliminating two setup wizards and reducing four steps to one. I’m okay with that, and I’m pretty sure Gummy Bear 1.3 users are going to be okay with it, too.
A couple of reference links for you. If you want to see the final version of the new Gummy Bear Installation page, here’s the install page at gummybear.sueetie.com. The Installing Gummy Bear wiki document is now Version 1.3 Rockin-Ready, so if you’re interested give that a look as well.
