I was advising a former client the other night on re-registering his domain with Network Solutions and wanted to brush up on my Internet History when NSI worked with the Commerce Department as sole registrar back in the early 90's.
I stumbled on this March 7, 2000 article in C/Net:
VeriSign buys Network Solutions in $21 billion deal
Reading this article took me right back to the days of checking my portfolio a couple of times a day and taking after-hours code jobs just so I could invest my earnings. Check out this excerpt:
“The news drew a mixed reaction from Wall Street. By the 1 p.m. PST close of regular trading, shares of NSI were up $46.75, or about 13 percent, to $407.38, having hit new 52-week high of $437.13 earlier. VeriSign shares fell $47.44, or about 19 percent, to $200. “
What a nutty time!
