We’ve laid the groundwork for a solid Friends model in Sueetie and have started to add friends functionality to other Community areas. The first new Friends feature to tell you about is PM to Friends where you can send a PM to your Friends List. Here’s a screenshot.
We also add Friends enhancements to The Wall with Friends request options and icons to indicate when someone is your friend. Below you can see the new Friend Icon displayed. Stan Vernoff and Henry Krosky are friends and Henry is currently viewing The Wall. We see a new Friends Icon by Stan Vernoff’s name.
The Friends enhancements also include Wall comments. Here is the same Wall Message and Comment when Stan Vernoff views it.
New “Become Friends” links have also been added to The Wall, displayed to Registered Users for members who are not Friends. Again, the feature applies to both Wall Messages and Comments. The request occurs on the client side, so an Alert Window immediately displays informing the user that their Friends Request has been sent. The Wall Friend Requests use the new Sueetie Template Email System when sending email request notifications. The receiving member’s “Friends” link also includes a “Friends (1)” to indicate they have a new request.
Here’s a screenshot of the “Become Friends” links. The member viewing The Wall is not friends with the author of the Wall Message or the Comment.
What’s Next For Friends
It would be very easy to keep going with Friends features across Sueetie, adding more Friend Icon indicators and “Become Friends” links for instance. Friends wasn’t on our Version 4.1 Roadmap, however. The release of YetAnotherForum.NET v184.108.40.206 made adding a Friends Model too good to resist. Going forward we will keep Friends Functionality in mind as we design the Analytics updates in v4.1, but no other Friends-specific features are planned for now. If you have Friends features you want to see for v4.1, we’d still love to hear them.
