Sueetie.org May Day Updates

You know how it is after you've been cranking away on a development server for a while and realize, "Dang, I'm pushing a lot of stuff to this site!"  That captures the Sueetie.org May Day Updates.

The bullet list of Sueetie newness and change includes:

  • Top level WAP application has been converted to a Website Project application. Former /Members and /Admin websites now integrated in root website.
  • BlogEngine.NET upgraded from build 24796 to BlogEngine.NET 1.5 for both site and group blog
  • BlogEngine.NET SQL storage model for posts and comments used for Sueetie-specific apps now in place. Extensions were added in BE.NET to save/update posts and comments to SQL.
  • Friends and Favorites added, supporting the tagging of BlogEngine.NET posts and comments to follow authors and to mark as favorites.  WCF Service added with JQuery and Ajax client coding to support tagging.
  • Groups updated.  Formerly three groups were supported.  I wanted to keep all group apps current, so with the frequent updates to Sueetie.org I scaled back from 3 groups to a single public group.
  • Added supporting logic and data for anonymous user. ASPNET Membership integration and SueetieUserID of -1.
  • Upgraded YetAnotherForum.NET from v1.9.3 RC2 to Final Release v1.9.3.  Both site forums and Demo Group forums running YAF.NET 1.9.3 Final.
  • Centralized data storage model described in "Unification" with Application, ApplicationTypes, Content and ContentType objects in place.

As for what's new and cool on the page, I hope you will check out tagging on the Sueetie Blogs.  Look for the following buttons on the blog posts and footer links on comments.

We're in tag gathering mode, of course, which must precede doing anything with them in the UI department.  The first appearance of friends and favorites tagging will be found on the User Profile, which no doubt has a top spot on the Sueetie To-Do List.

The next phase of a site update like this has traditionally been to apply the updates to Gummybear, then document the changes and package up the original Sueetie code and application DIFFs for CodePlex.  To be honest I don't know when or even _if_ that's going to happen.  That's such a huge time suck, and I want to focus the precious time I happen to have at the moment on development. Speaking of which, I think I'll get back to it.  Next up is adding following and favorites to Sueetie YetAnotherForum.NET forums. We'll keep what comes after that as a surprise.
