Dave Burke : Freelance .NET Web Developer specializing in Online Communities

Telligent Dreams and Marmalade Skies

What does a guy say when quite possibly the greatest opportunity of his life just came along?  Dang, I wish I knew.  What I do know is that on Monday morning I begin a new phase of my career as Telligent System's first Community Server Evangelist

As Rob Howard noted when he announced the position earlier today, my role, in a nutshell, will be to help find, share, and connect people to Community Server.

More specifically, I will be authoring a Community Server Daily News blog, which I plan to pattern after the daily news blog that started it all and remains supreme, Mike Gunderloy's The Daily Grind.  I'll let you know when Volume 1, No. 1 is online.

I will also be spending quality time in the Community Server Forums, building relationships, monitoring the issues users are having, coordinating and delegating to find solutions, assuring users that we're listening.  Lots of good potential there as time allows.  I'll talk more about other aspects of my Community Evangelist role soon.

Funny, when Jason Alexander first described the position to me on the phone, my response was something like, "Jason, I've got a pretty good understanding of the objective and responsibilities of a Telligent Community Server Evangelist from your description, but I do have a question.  'DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GOING TO PAY ME FOR DOING THAT????'"

If I have anything very insightful to share about this new and wonderful phase of my life that's about to begin, it's this:  Follow your passions.  The reason this opportunity has come my way is because I am passionate about Community Server.  I love it.  Since its release I've spent as much time as possible working with Community Server, learning more about it and building relationships with other developers and users who love it, too.  Follow your passions, whatever they might be, and good things will surely happen.

On that note of sharing the passion and the Community Server Love, let me give you my new Telligent email address:  davebu@telligent.com.

Congrats;
They are really smart. Recently we've faced with lots of requests, issues and questions on forums and community couldn't handle them. I highly notice you to be online on weekends if you can . Most of unanswered questions are there.
I'm sure that you'll be success here.
Ok, answer this question: This new position is better or previous one? Wink

The forums are going to be an aspect of the work that I'm sure I'll feel that there is always more to do.  We'll see about those weekend shifts.

A big Wink! Wink! Smiley to answer your question about the position.

Thanks for the congrats, Keyvan!

Too many of you guys to thank individually in a comment while I was out Code Camping.  Since I've been wanting to thank you guys for being such a special part of the CS Bonzo Festival we've been having for the last year anyway, I'll add your congrats to the list next time we hook up.  THANKS!

Thanks, Brandon.  As for Telligent needing a Speech guy, I don't have any inside info for you, but from watching them grow and evolve over the last year or so all I can say is "not this week." Smile

Dave, I just got back from a week-and-a-half vacation and I'm sitting here trying to catch up on my email and blog reading - I saw Rob Howard's announcement and then jumped over here to catch your version.

I second the comments - "couldn't have happened to a better person".  I knew there were good things in store for you. Losing your job may have been the best thing that ever happened to you!

I am proud of you and envious.  I feel like one of the little green aliens from Pizza Planet's vending machine in Toy Story who's just had one of his brethren selected by "The Claw".  Telligent has gained a great resource and you, sir, are now a member of the most impressive group of individuals in the industry today - the "Dream Team".  I wish you well.

"Feel like one of the little green aliens from Pizza Planet's vending machine in Toy Story who's just had one of his brethren selected by 'The Claw!'"  Hearing the sound in my head that they made when ascension occurred as I read your comment made me laugh even harder. Thank you so much, Dan!

And yeah, those Telligent fellas are scarrry impressive.

RE: "And yeah, those Telligent fellas are scarrry impressive. "

You mean "And yeah, we Telligent fellas are scarry impressive."

Smile

Dan,  For grammatical accuracy, I suppose you're correct.  But no, I meant "THOSE Telligent fellas."  Thanks for the sentiment though.
