The Nerds of Code Camp 5

Here's my New England Code Camp 5 issue of "The Nerds of Code Camp."

It was  good to start Code Camp with seeing a couple of buds I became friends with at Code Camp 3, back in the dotText days, Jim Bonnie and Todd Cooper.  I reintroduced myself to Michael Hennessy and met Chris Lester.  I sat beside Joel Foner for the Richard Hale Shaw Show.

I was happy to see a couple of Vermont DotNetters in attendance, Carl Lorentson and Rob Hale.

Two kindred Community Server Spirits I enjoyed meeting for the first time at CC5 were Aaron Robinson and…Owen?  Owen, you know who you are.  You are going to send me a CS presentation you’re working on.  I lost the paper that I wrote your name on, so email me!

Special shout-out to Ira Grollman, who provided great input during my Community Server presentation and made me examine the types of information IT decision makers unfamiliar with Community Server need to hear.

I was extremely pleased to make a few new Beantown buds: Bill Gross, Greg Smalter (who's actually from New York and was only impersonating a Beantown Geekster), and their designated Button Man, Greg McKinley (like the mountain.)  It was also good to spend time talking with Gary Chin.

I was finally able to meet Dan Krhla (who did three sessions on day one!)  Dan and I have been cyber-rapping primarily about Independent Music for a while now and I was looking forward to meeting him.

In the name-dropper category, Richard Hale Shaw said hello to me(!!), I also got to talk a bit with Mark Mullin, who actually did FOUR sessions on day one.  It was great seeing Robert Hurlbut again, as always.  Like several other presenters at Code Camp 5, Robert will be speaking at DevTeach this week.  I got to say hello and shake DonXML's (Demsak's) hand, who was good enough to tell me more about his (very smart) reasoning in moving from being an Independent for 12 years to recently joining a company.

Continuing with my name-dropping, I've seen Kevin Goff at several conferences and finally got to meet him this weekend.  His ADO.NET 2.0 - SQL 2005 presentation was excellent.  Robert Holmes was looking hot with a new uniform-length beard and hair look!  Last but not least, Thom Robbins gave me a super-firm handshake.  That guy is the best.  The BEST!

I think I’m going to have to steal my daughter's Walt Disney World autograph book for Code Camp 6!

Hi Dave,
It was great seeing you again at CC5!  Sorry I couldn't catch your talk, but I had to catch up some stuff that would help me in the day job.
Speaking of jobs, big congrats on your new one with Telligent.  If your weren't before, I guess you're officially one of the "rock stars" of the .Net world now!
Take it easy, or however it comes!
