User IP Geolocation Lookup for the Obsessive Sueetie Community Administrator

You may recall that the first feature I added in Gummy Bear v1.3 was IP Banning.  It now has a bonus one-click User IP Geolocation lookup feature. Here's a screenshot of the administrative user profile page.

It’s funny how I keep learning about things with Sueetie that I never thought would be part of the program. In this case it’s how weird people from all over the world (and some geo-hot spots in particular) find some sort of twisted satisfaction in creating site accounts to post nonsense forum posts about Nike Sneakers, or whatever.  Keep in mind that Sueetie.com uses email authentication for user registration with double Captcha on registration and login, so these are real people.

So what’s a Community Administrator who obsesses over every site detail supposed to do?  Lock the front door with IP banning and make it easier to learn more about new users are two good places to start.

The administrative user profile globe links to a service at www.ip2location.com that spits out the geolocation of the IP we send to it in the querystring. There are a few other IP Location services out there, but ip2location allows you to check 20 a day, or 200 queries per day by simply registering.  A great service, for sure.
