Using Comment Blacklist Extension for BlogEngine.NET

As I said before, I don’t get spam with BlogEngine.NET.  Never have.  Yet lately I’ve been starting to see Busby SEO comments popping up.  Deleting them gets old fast so I decided to get Chris Blankenship’s Comment Blacklist Extension for BlogEngine.NET.  Because BlogEngine.NET is so blazingly fast, I rarely add extensions on general principle. This lightweight extension simply checks the author name and removes the comment if it matches a blocked author listed in the admin console.

If I find that I need even more protection I’ll get Ruslan Tur’s very cool Commentor extension.  This works with Keyvan Nayyeri’s Waegis spam control service, which I’ve been wanting to use forever.  The problem is that with BlogEngine.NET I never needed that kind of protection. I’ll probably end up installing Commentor just so I get to use Waegis, whether I need it or not.

Yeap, lots of great BlogEngine.NET extensions out there…

I think this is the extension I need.  Then I just have to load it with those pharma and porn related keywords that spammers use.

Chris,  I follow everything you do, man.  You've written some wonderful extensions.  I read what you blogged about the gatekeeper, but I'll definitely check it out.

Leon, I hope that works for you.  Please let us know if you find another solution that works better for you.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Yes, this Busby thing is really terrible in the way that it has encouraged ordinary people to publish spams. The worse point is that since they're human, CAPTCHA controls cannot stop them.

Btw, you're doing the right job. You shouldn't use any protection unless it is necessary. I always discourage Waegis users from using the service if they don't get spams.

Keyvan,  That is EXACTLY how I feel about "this Busby thing."  BlogEngine.NET's hidden captcha is excellent, yet like you said you can't stop humans entering comments with captcha.  I don't even understand Busby, but I guess people think they can make money doing it.

I'm still looking forward to being a Waegis user someday! Smile

Thanks Chris and Dave. They were getting annoying. Now rolled out across all our customers BE sites.

Looks like our "friend" Busby has figured out how to change his name.  Still getting those p-i-n-a-y-s-p-e-a-k domain links, but now with different user names.

It would be nice if the blacklist filter allowed for checking the Name, and/or Email, and/or Website.

I've been watching the "Commentor" extension as well, and am half-tempted to start using it...it's getting a bit silly, 'eh?

Thanks for the post!

Al, thanks for the comment!  I've been Busby free so far!  Will let you know how it goes in the future.
