VS2005 bits are streaming into Vermont. VS2005 Professional (CD1 and CD2 images) and MSDN for Visual Studio 2005 (CD1, 2, and 3) are sitting happily on my hard drive--all 2.72 gigabytes of them--waiting to serve The Greater Good...or blow up my development server during the Beta 2.0-to-RTM migration.
No SQL2005 this week. I've been using SQL2000 in my .NET 2.0 Beta 2.0 work. No SQL2005 CTPs ever touched my servers. I'll enjoy the fullness of a VS2005/SQL2005 life after Beta-to-RTM. No need to push it.
The release of SQL2005 and VS2005 is a very exciting time. Honestly. Having better tools to do your job is a wonderful gift in life. I have a hard time with people who question whether Microsoft's SQL2005 and Visual Studio 2005 offerings are still relevant in this Web 2.0 world, some three years after the products were initially conceived. That's just stupid. Of COURSE they're relevant!!! My fear is that the geniuses at Microsoft may forget that their development tools are still at the core of their business strategy. You want Live! to succeed? Developers, developers, developers, baby!
But enough of this serious talk. It's time to celebrate moving to a new generation of development tools. It's a happy time! I was having trouble expressing my feelings of happiness on the release of SQL2005 and VS2005. Then I saw how our South Korean brothers captured this special moment for the entire world to share. It's okay now if I don't have the words. This video says it for me. Thanks, guys! LOVE IT!!!
