Version Re-Sync Coming in Sueetie 2.0

On each new feature blog post you’ve read, “this [ultra-awesome] feature will be available in Sueetie v1.4 coming in October 2010.”  That’s no longer exactly accurate. The good news is that those [ultra-awesome] features will still be available in the next version of Sueetie, the bad news is that you have to start thinking about that version as Sueetie 2.0.  It’s time.

We’re moving to 2.x for several reasons.  For one, there are a TON of new features that move Sueetie to the next level.  Here are just a few of them.

  1. Fully Mobile Theming Architecture
  2. Completely rewritten Content Part Control that makes content management a pleasure
  3. And speaking of content, a robust Content Management System with full Sueetie Framework integration for searching, tagging, logging, etc
  4. Bibliographic Document Library support
  5. Global Tagging architecture, with tag support for every type of content: wiki pages, media albums and objects, forum threads, blog posts, and CMS pages
  6. Tag Cloud control for global display, by application and application type
  7. User Analytic Logging
  8. Top Secret Feature #1
  9. Top Secret Feature #2
  10. Revamped Lollipop Theme

That’s a ton of features, I think you’d agree.  Sorry I can’t tell you about Top Secret Features #1 and #2, but they’ll definitely push Sueetie over the Version 2.0 threshold.

Sueetie 2.0 will be released in .NET 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008.  Very soon after the Sueetie 2.0 release there will be a Sueetie 2.0.1 release identical to v2.0 but which will be .NET 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010.  All post-2.0.1 releases will be exclusively .NET 4.0/VS2010.

Another reason it’s time for 2.x is because Sueetie’s feature set is close to being locked-down with the upcoming 2.0 release.  The Sueetie Framework has matured to the point where we can focus more on enhancements in areas like analytics, member points, developer tools and so forth.

One more newsy item in regards to Sueetie 2.0, I’ve always shot for a (late) October Release.  That gives us a month. I honestly don’t know if we’re going to make that. Sorry. I’m almost finished on Top Secret Feature #1 and you’ll be hearing about that soon. Top Secret Feature #2 is yet to start and requires a YetAnotherForum.NET upgrade.  I’m hoping for an upgrade to YAF 1.9.4.1, particularly to enjoy the new Daily Digest feature, but we may have to settle for YAF 1.9.4 RTM (from the current 1.9.4 RC3.)  I also want a cleaner, more modern Lollipop Theme for Sueetie 2.0.  That will be the last item, so when you see Sueetie.com sporting the new Lollipop you know we’re close.

Thanks for hanging tough in anticipation of Sueetie 2.0. We’re typing as fast as we can.
