What the user reviews were really saying

I was updating an internal asp.net written by a dev no longer with the company, so I solicited feedback from users before I fixed it as I knew I would have to before it was ready for release.  Sidebar: It seems that the longer I do this developer gig the more I value users' input.  Maybe I'm getting old.  Anyway, their review of how the app worked or didn't work and what needed to be changed was very smart and valuable.

Other than some UI flaws and logical data flow issues, the app was in the ballpark without too much reworking to get it online and the users could move from the Access Forms-based app to the web-based app.

One example of what they felt needed changed jumped out at me in their review (paraphrasing)  “The dropdown boxes are too crude.  You can only type the first letter and have to scroll to find the selection...”  Of COURSE they're crude.  It's a WEB APP!  Yeah, yeah, there are “smart“ dropdowns out there, some of which I've used for clients who demanded a smarter dropdown, but overall I don't like the ones I've used.  The point is that these folks were using a MS Access Forms app and didn't want to lose the rich client UI features they were used to.   In short, my users are telling me that they want winforms.  2004 will be the year I can start giving it to them.
