Where I'm at with CS

I'm still working with CS offline on my home office network and will announce when my dbvt.com site has been migrated from its current design of DotNetNuke 2.1.2, nGallery 1.6.1, and dotText 0.95 to CS 1.0.

I used Kevin Harder's dotText-to-CS migration tool.  EXCELLENT WORK KEVIN!  I want to post more on that tool when I have time.  I used Ken Robertson's nGallery-to-CSGalleries migration tool (ALSO EXCELLENT), so I'm good with the data port.  I used Ken Robertson's instructions on configuring CS for a single blog.  I did not use the CS Installer.

At the moment I am working on a new CSBlogs skin.  After I'm happy with the skin I'll go through all of the particulars to make sure all links are good, comments and permissions are configured correctly and perform all of those pre-release functional checks.  In the meantime I'll be following the excellent work of CS early adapters who include Kevin and Dan Bartels, among others.

Finally I migrate dbvt.com to CS and start thinking about CS Mods.

Dave,

I have been following the DNN story for a few months and was waiting for 3.0 to go RC before publishing a site. I will be migrating my golf database system (http://www.silverribbon.com/cgi-bin/show_ladder.pl">http://www.silverribbon.com/cgi-bin/show_ladder.pl) that is my sample application for new technology. I am a mangler now and don't get to code much at the office!

Your talk at code camp got be pumped about adding blogging to the site and becoming a more active part of the community. So, with blogging/forum modules added to DNN 3.0, I thought we were good to go...

But now CS comes into the picture and throws a wrench in the plans.

Are you leaving DNN behind and going to a pure CS framework.
I have heard that CS and DNN will be integrated in the future- so do you see your CS work being able to work back into DNN later as well.

Regards, Jim

Hey, Jim!  The answer is "yes."  I know for sure that I am getting rid of DNN for now to employ a pure CS framework, as you said.  I really don't use DNN at my site other than for user management and I want to get rid of the overhead, using CS for user management instead.

I like DNN.  I deployed it at HQ and developed some modules for it, which was pretty cool, so I'm looking forward to checking out DNN 3.

As for integrating DNN 3 with CS, I wait until the boys at Telligent come up with an integrated package.  There's a good bit of overlap and ugliness in a DNN-CS union, so I'll proceed with straight CS fun while they handle the plumbing details.

Keep me posted.  Always good to hear from you.

I'm not decided either, to tell you the truth.  I just learned today that my wife and little girl will be out of town for that weekend, so I have the rare opportunity to geek-around-the-clock.  That's a pretty precious thing, even worth giving up DevTeach for...

Well, then there is only one thing left to say:

"May the coding begin" ;)
