Your rockin’ YetAnotherForum.NET is ready for action

The Project Gummy Bear Forum is up and as a happy result the YetAnotherForum.NET Sueetie DIFF source is on CodePlex and setup documentation on the Sueetie Wiki.  One more app and it’s a wrap on setup. Roger Martin’s Gallery Server Pro remains.  At that point we take it to the next level, or at least enjoy more quality time with the apps themselves.

For your consideration I give you the YetAnotherForum.NET Sueetie DIFF files:

The Sueetie YAF.NET DIFF files

While we’re on the subject, what does a Sueetie DIFF ZIP do?  It mostly performs small tweaks in consolidating membership across the community site.  Here’s a good graphic to demonstrate that.  YetAnotherForum.NET uses an “Administrators” group.  For Sueetie we want to differentiate the forum administrator group from the site administrator group, so we change instances of “Administrators” to “ForumAdministrator.”

The complete YetAnotherForum.NET Sueetie setup instructions are located in the Wiki, but I’ll boil them down here for you as 1) Grab the YAF.NET source, 2) Download the Forum Sueetie DIFF source, 3) Copy it over the YAF.NET source files (shown below), 4) Compile and Go!

Well, almost.

Copying YAF.NET DIFFs over original source

One of the things I like about YetAnotherForum.NET is how it automatically installs itself when you load it for the first time.  Go to http://yoursite/forum/ and YAF.NET walks you through the installation steps.  And installation is drop-dead simple.  The three (yes, only three) setup screens are shown below.  The only step which may require any explanation is the first asking for a configuration password.  The config password is set in the YAF root app.config file, with the default being "password."  What’s cool about the second step is that with the Sueetie DIFF applied, YAF is configured for ASPNET Membership, so we simply enter the “admin” user.

Like I said, one more app to go and then the Sueetie DIFF packaging and setup documentation will be complete.  Wrapping up Gallery Server Pro might take an extra day or two because I need to upgrade to Roger’s new UserControl-based architecture in Gallery Server Pro 2.2.3286. More on that soon.  For now, enjoy that rockin’ .NET-based Open Source YetAnotherForum app.
