I started exploring Community Server 2007 this weekend. For each CS upgrade my routine is to install a new site on my home office network to get comfortable with the new version of Community Server. I also like to keep the previous versions online as a history. http://dbvtcs30 joins http://dbvtcs21, http://dbvtcs20, http://dbvtcs11, and http://dbvtcs. http://dbvtcom was my first http://dbvt baby, dotText integrated with DNN and nGallery. All of the sites still fire up, too! If you don't believe me, here's a screenshot of http://dbvtcs, last post entered August 23, 2005.
Sorry for the walk down dbvtcs memory lane. This post is about Community Server 2007. The addition of Rich Mercer and Kevin Harder puts the count of online CS2007 blogs at five, so we're getting close. For me, I'll be keeping my CS2007 site offline until betas start coming out, or I may even wait for RTM. There's a lot to explore and I don't want to worry about blowing up my site in the process.
This is definitely a rootin' tootin' full version release of Community Server. It's a next generation release with lots to talk about. Ben Tiedt is doing a simply incredible job describing Chameleon, CS2007's new theming engine. (He's doing an even more incredible job building it.) You're going to really, really like Chameleon.
Below is a screenshot of the http://dbvtcs30 home page. Looks familiar, eh? I've been collecting style ideas for my CS2007 site, but I thought I'd begin by duplicating my existing site look as the best way to introduce myself to Chameleon and other new features. (New background image though!) I know it sucks to hear about CS2007 when it's not yet available to everyone, but hopefully I'll make amends with lots of posts between now and when the CS2007 beta will shortly be available for download. I'll describe some of the particulars of migrating my Community Server 2.1 theme to CS2007 in my next CS2007 post.
