Site Access Control Features have been updated to include site activity reporting. Displaying site activity on the access control pages gives us the ability to identify suspicious remote IP activity, crawlers and other nasties. Keyword: identification.
Here’s a screenshot of the Blocked and Filtered Crawler Agents page a few days ago without any accompanying Site Activity Data.
Here’s the updated page with Site Activity Reporting at right where we can search and page through the user agents to identify crawlers and bots.
Here’s a close-up of the user activity table where you can see we have the ability to filter, sort and page through the user agent data.
One thing I love about building apps is that there is always room for improvement. Below is the User Activity Report which displays on the Site Access Control page for blocking access by IP Range. The Activity Report identifies access by Remote IP.
The Activity Report has a built-in function to view the geo-location of the Remote IP with your favorite IP Geo-Location service, configurable in the Sueetie Addon Pack. After I got it online at Sueetie.com and started working with it, I realized how nice it would be to view which site pages the IP was accessing without resorting to a SQL query. You’ll be hearing more from me on this, if not for Version 3.1 then for another v3.x release.
And who said Site Access Control wasn’t exciting???
