Sueetie Following and Favorites tagging support for YetAnotherForum.NET is online at http://sueetie.org/forum. Sueetie Group applications have the same features as site apps, so you’ll find Following and Favorites support on the Sueetie Public Demo Group Forum as well at http://sueetie.org/groups/demo/forum.
While I was enjoying some quality time with YetAnotherForum.NET for Following and Favorites, I thought I’d make a few other modifications to tighten the integration between forums and Sueetie Proper. That resulted in a number of updates, so here is a forums update roundup for all of you Buckaroos. Details to follow.
First stop is avatar integration. Since we added Member Avatars to the Sueetie Framework recently we needed to do away with separate YAF.NET Avatar handling. One Avatar to rule them all. As a result you’ll see a lot of Lollipop Heads on Sueetie Forums until members add a profile avatar.
As I mentioned, Sueetie Following and Favorites is now in Sueetie Forums. You can follow members, tag topics and individual forum messages as favorites. This was a fun endeavor because it was an opportunity to work with native YetAnotherForum.NET controls and the YAF.NET Language Resources model. Interesting on both counts and more about those later. First some roundup screenpics.
Here we see the addition of Tagging Topics as Favorites to the Options popup menu.
Below is the updated Message User Popup Menu. A few changes here. First, "User Profile" is now "Forum Profile" as the YAF.NET profile has been slimmed-down to include only Forum-specific information like statistics, signatures, and so on. There’s a new link to the forthcoming "User Community Profile" where we’ll enjoy the fruits of our following and favorite coding to date. And of course the new "Follow/Unfollow" member option is displayed.
One of the Aspects of Cool in working with the native YetAnotherForum.NET controls is that we can leverage the functionality of the controls, like the postback notification properties of the YAF.NET popup menu.
What we saw above was tagging a forums topic as a favorite. Additionally you can now tag individual forum messages as favorites. The new FAVORITE button uses the JQuery, Ajax and WCF model we implemented with BlogEngine.NET.
As I mentioned, the Forums User Profile Display Tabs have been trimmed, with the default Profile and Avatar areas removed.
The user Profile Edit tab supports Inbox and other built-in YetAnotherForum.NET messaging functions, with the reduced calorie "Forums Profile" menus supporting Signature and Forum Subscriptions only.
Those are today’s updates, all saddled-up and ready to ride at Sueetie.org if you’re interested. Next up for Sueetie will be the Member User Profile page. Also high on the to-do list is completing Following and Favorites by adding support to ScrewTurn Wiki and Gallery Server Pro, the Sueetie Wiki and Media Gallery. Both are coming out with big-time updates soon (Sueetie excitement!), so it’s a good reason to wait and get started on the Sueetie User Profile in the meantime.
