The Era of Friends Begins in Sueetie

This is the beginning of a new "Era of Friends" in Sueetie, with a new context for enhancing Community Engagement.  New ways to interact, create, view and filter content are ahead, most of which will be discovered as we continue to engage as friends in the community.  We’ll touch on a few short-term plans for Friends later, but first let’s look at what we have in place to support friends.

One of the strengths of the Sueetie architecture model is that we can leverage great ideas from member Sueetie Applications and take them to the community level with enhanced site-wide functionality. In the case of Sueetie Friends, we are leveraging YetAnotherForum.NET’s wonderful Buddies functionality and extending it with features to promote member engagement and relationships throughout the online community.

Here’s the YetAnotherForum.NET Buddies page. The page gives you the ability to manage your friends and friend requests with the "Pending Requests" and "Your Friend Requests" tabs.  It has been enhanced with two Sueetie features (for now) which are (1) the inclusion of the user Sueetie Avatar, and (2) a Friends Activity Stream.

Becoming Friends

The process of becoming friends consists of one member requesting friendship with another member who accepts the Friend request. There are several ways to become friends. You can use the "Add as Friend" link on the member’s profile page or request to become a friend from other locations, like on the forum post user popup menu.

When you request friendship with another member a notification dialog will display telling you that your friendship request has been sent.

When the member receives a friendship request it is displayed on his or her "Friends" link, a new menu item added to the Sueetie User Menu and available site-wide.

The friends request is displayed in the recipient’s Pending Request area for processing.

Friends Activity Stream

An all new Friends Activity Stream has been added to Sueetie Friends. The Friends Activity Stream filters the site activity stream to display only the activity of your friends.

The Future of Friends

Friends is an area we are committed to extending with more functions and to more places. We will be adding the ability to easily add friends from other applications for starters. Friend activity will also be captured in the Analytics reporting enhancements coming in the next release of Sueetie. We are just beginning the era of Sueetie Friends, so expect new and fun capabilities coming your way. We hope you’re friendly enough to partake in them. haha!
